A Little Touch

Changing my patient's brief this happened.

I thought it was an accident, but then she said:

"I used to have breasts like this."

Then she caressed my waist and then went back to my breast.

What can I say?  I have nice breasts.  Even old confused ladies know it.

I/O cath

So I was helping to in and out cath this lady yesterday.  I mean the nurse didn't want to do it, so I did it and she watched.  I like to get my hands dirty, so I didn't mind helping.

I set up the sterile field, glove up, etc.  You know.  And I go in for the urethra.

The urine starts coming out, and she grabbed my boob.  This old lady who can't pee grabbed my boob.

I thought she did it on accident, but then she said:

I used to have breasts like these.

Laughter ensued.  Then she proceeded to caress my waist and breast until we were done.

"Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love." Proverbs 5:19

Death x2

Two of my patients died tonight.

Both DNR.  Both comfort care.  Both in their fifties.

Today was the first ever day I had a patient die while I was there, and I had two patients die.

It is really intense seeing someone's very last breath.

I did not keep them alive 'til 7:05.

Instead of trying to stay awake and do something productive this morning, I took a shower and went straight to bed.  Then I woke up and went to lunch/dinner with a friend and bought myself flowers.

Just trying to remember the song: "Great is thy faithfulness, great is thy faithfulness.  Morning by morning new mercies I see.  All I have needed thy hands have provided.  Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me."

"Oh death, where is thy sting?  Oh grave, where is thy victory?  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:55,57

Girls Are Crazy

This girl was looking at herself intensely in the mirror and her friend asked her what she was looking at.

She said, "I'm feeling really self conscious about my hair."

"Why? Your hair looks perfect."

"Yeah, like I'm going to a piano recital."

"Don't they want perfect hair at piano recitals?"

"Yeah...."

"Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment." John 12:3

Chirop

I had to go to the chiropractor today because one of my patients this week was crazy.

That's all I'm saying.

Homework!?

Two days of classes for this week down.  Two more to go.

I'm glad for the classes, because Lord knows I don't know that much about telemetry strips.

So the hospital gave us a 2 day telemetry class, yesterday and tomorrow.  There was homework.  Homework.  Yes, who knew that the hospital was going to give me homework.  I thought I was out of school.  No, biggie though.

And I took a how-to-talk-to-patients class today.  It ended up being really fun/funny.

Happy BDay Mom!

Four days into my new career and I already forgot my mother's birthday...  Am I already that enmeshed in my work that I forget the important things?

Sorry Mom!  Happy bday to the best mom ever!

Today was pretty good.  We did a lot of hands on learning today.  Well some of it was learning, like PCA pumps and the computer charting system.  And some stuff was review that they wanted to make sure we knew what we were doing, like Foley catheters, IV pumps, and SCDs.

My first name was spelled wrong on the computer charting system, but they got it fixed right away!  I was happy when they changed it because I like my name.

I'm not sure all of what we are doing tomorrow, but I know it involves a math test.

"O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!" Psalm 8:9

First!

So almost two weeks ago I became an RN!  After years of hard work, here I am.

This is the start of something new, as opposed to the end of school.

I have a job, and I start this coming Monday.  Like a real job.  So excited!

Right after I interviewed for my job, I went to a urine drug screening.  I was sitting in the waiting room, waiting.  There was another lady there waiting.  She looked like she was probably 40-ish.  We talked for a second.

40-Year-Old-Lady: I like your dress.
Me: Thanks!
40-Year-Old-Lady: Did you have an interview today?
Me: Yes. Did you?
40-Year-Old-Lady. Yep.  What kind of job did you apply for?
Me: An RN position. You?
40-Year-Old-Lady: A CNA position...

Awkward...
